The visit to the Institute of Oceanology in Varna was a fascinating educational experience. This prestigious institute is a leading marine and oceanographic research centre in Bulgaria. During our visit, scientists from the institute gave us a detailed insight into their research and projects. We learned about the marine biodiversity of the Black Sea and studies on climate change and its effects on marine ecosystems. One of the most interesting aspects was how they collect and process data. We were shown how water and sediment samples are collected during expeditions at sea. We observed the advanced equipment used for data collection and learned about the analysis methods in the laboratory. The researchers explained how this data is processed and interpreted to draw conclusions about the state and health of the marine ecosystem. The visit to the marine biology lab allowed us to see various marine species up close and understand their ecological importance. We also learned about the work carried out in the conservation of endangered species and the restoration of marine habitats.
